How It Works
1️⃣ Initial Assessment – A confidential conversation to gather your needs and create your addiction counselling treatment plan.
2️⃣ Preparation Phase (2 weeks) – We explore the root causes of your addiction from a mental health perspective.
3️⃣ Structured Program (10 weeks) – Includes two one-on-one therapy sessions and one peer group session weekly. Providing structured support in a non-residential setting that helps build coping strategies and emotional resilience.
4️⃣ Recovery Planning – A clear roadmap for maintaining your recovery in everyday life.
5️⃣ Continuum of Care Support – Ongoing one-on-one and/or group addiction counselling support to help you stay on track.

The Gate Recovery Program – Led by Dr. James Kinane
Dr. James Kinane brings over 30 years of experience in addiction recovery. He has worked in rehabilitation treatment centres across Ireland, guiding individuals at every stage of their journey to lasting change. James works alongside a team of accredited councillors and psychotherapists.
As a Programme Director, Lecturer, and Clinical Supervisor at ICHAS—a leading Irish college specialising in all areas of Counselling and Psychotherapy including Addiction—James plays a key role in shaping the next generation of addiction counsellors.
Holding a PhD, MA, and BA in psychology-related fields, his expertise and unique hands-on experience have come together to create The Gate Recovery Program, designed to provide real solutions for real recovery.
The program is delivered by experienced and qualified professionals who are here to support you on your recovery journey. Focussing on building real connections and creating a safe space where you can heal and move forward.

What is your catchment area?
The Gate Recovery Program is physically based in Limerick with a growing ist of Designated Centres throughout the country. Our Program is alternatively available in its complete form online via Zoom. Neither option requires full-time residential stays as found in residential rehabilitation centres.

Do I need to be sober / clean before joining?
No our Program is based on both an abstinence based model and a harm reduction approach.
Can I attend AA / NA / GA / CA while participating on the Gate Recovery Program?
Every form of support is a help. The Gate Recovery Program operates independent or alongside independent meet-ups.
What if I’ve tried addiction recovery before and relapsed?
The Gate Recovery Program offers dedicated support for individuals who have relapsed. Clients who have completed a residential rehab program elsewhere can transition directly into our Continuum of Care Support for ongoing recovery.
Does it follow the AA 12-step approach, or is it different?
The Gate Recovery Program differs from the 12-step approach by integrating trauma healing, past life exploration, and mental health support.
Will my participation be confidential?
Our program maintains strict confidentiality for the individual and also offers strict confidentiality to the family unit who are invited to participate within part of the programe.
What kind of support is available for my family?
A family support program for those affected by addiction is set to launch in June 2025. It will feature one-on-one counseling alongside group sessions within the family unit.
