Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Treatment

Building Healthier Relationships

What Is Compulsive Sexual Behaviour (CSB)?

Programme Overview

Compulsive Sexual Behaviour, sometimes referred to as sex addiction, involves repeated sexual thoughts or actions that feel out of control and lead to distress or negative consequences.
It is now in the current edition recognised by the World Health Organization (ICD-11) as Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD)—a condition that can be treated through evidence-based therapy.

At MyMove Together, treatment focuses on both the behaviour and its emotional roots—such as stress, trauma, or unmet emotional needs.

Common Signs of CSB

  • Repeated attempts to stop but inability to maintain control.

  • Sexual urges interfering with work, family, or relationships.

  • Feelings of guilt, shame, or anxiety after acting on impulses.

  • Using sexual behaviour to regulate emotions or escape distress.

  • Impact on mood, sleep, or daily functioning.

How Treatment Works

Our Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Treatment uses a structured, therapeutic framework that combines:

  • Diagnostic evaluation: understanding your history, triggers, and goals.

  • Stabilisation: strategies to manage urges, reduce risk, and maintain progress.

  • CBT and mindfulness: to strengthen awareness and impulse control.

  • Relational and emotional work: addressing attachment wounds, loneliness, or guilt.

  • Optional family or couples sessions: to rebuild trust and connection.

Therapy is delivered by a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with advanced training in sex addiction counselling (ISAT, UK) and accreditation with CPCAB, COSRT, and ATSAC.

Why This Approach Works

Compulsive behaviours are not about morality or character—they’re about the brain’s reward system becoming dysregulated.
Treatment helps restore balance, reconnect emotion with behaviour, and rebuild a sense of choice and safety in relationships.

Flexible and Confidential

Sessions can be completed:

  • In person at our Limerick practice, or
